Default Terrible, heavy vibration

Just replaced the front motor mount on my 2001 Electra Glide. I centered the mount in the frame and adjusted the motor to line up with it and now, the vibration at 1300 to 2000 RPMs is colossal! It is shaking the fairing apart and it has a heavy vibration at all RPMs. My motorcycle has been very smooth for the 52000 miles I have put on it. A little shake at idle, low vibration from 1000 to 2000 RPMs, but now it is vibrating much worse than when the mount was broken. What did I do wrong? HELP!!! Thanks, folks.

If you adjusted the motor to line up with the mount, I would think you messed up the engine alignment in the frame. This would cause a rough alignment of the belt drive to the back wheel and is probably the main source of vibration. I would presume you did this repair job in accordance with the service manual.

In addition to EasternSP's response, What mount did you install? 79B, 79C or 79D?
The "B" is what you removed and it is no longer available. The "C" and "D" are the new version and are much stiffer and will create more vibration but you may have installed it upsidedown, that will also cause much vibration. The newer versions install opposite of what it looks like when compared to the 79B.
If the motor is alligned and the mount is installed properly and you want to cut the vibes, you can purchase a buell motor mount #LO501.2 which is actually the old 79B you removed.
Do a search for the motor mounts and you will see pic's of the proper installation.

I am sure I did not mount it upside down. I had that in mind before I started. The replacement mount is an aftermarket item from Biker's Choice and purchased from a well known parts, repair and custom builder shop and is exactly like the one I took out. There are no motor mount replacement instructions in my official shop manual, but I made the adjustments according to the vehicle alignment section, which covers the adjustment procedure for the front mount. Oh well, looks like I start over. Thanks for the replies, Gentlemen.

To change a motor mount you should not have to align the engine. I just raise it up enough to get the old mount out and the new one in. Then I put everything together with a fasteners loose. I start the engine and tighten the fasteners with the engine running, seems to keep things from binding.

If you're going wrench on the bike with it running, by all means, don't hit the gear shift. That thing will take off on ya faster than you can imagine.
