Before I did the performance heads and pistons upgrade, my bike pulled real strong in 6th gear from 2400 rpms and up. The higher compression motor likes higher rpms.

At first this kinda freaked me out and I was thinking of changing the gearing. First gear is higher than I like and I am used to the bike being in high gear from 60 mph and up.

Then I got to thinking about the interstate trips I make a few times a year when I set the cruise on 83 mph and cruise for a tankful at at time. I finally realized there is nothing wrong with staying in 4th or 5th gear when I am cruising 60 mph with my wife on two lane roads. I have started paying more attention to the tac than worrying about if I am in high gear or not. I find myself in 4th gear most of the time that I am with a group that is wanting to stay at 55 mph. It took some getting used to, but I know that I have the other gear or two left if I hit the interstate.

I still wish I could lower 1st gear only, but I have gotten used to staying away from 6th gear unless I am on the interstate and wanting to cruise 80 mph. That 6th gear is great for that.

Dynoed out at 100 hp and 112 ft. lbs. torque. I don't worry about the fuel milage. If so, I would have kept the bike stock. Just took the bike on two road trips. One was to the Myrtle Beach Fall Rally (which sucked) and the other was to Biketoberfest in Daytona Beach (which was awesome). The bike performed great, but did run hot a couple times (260*), for a short period when going to Daytona and crusing for long periods of time at 85+ mph. The air temperature was around 85* at this time. I am running a HD Oil Cooler and thinking about adding a JAGG 10 Row Oil Cooler before next Summer. My dealer did tell me that, "The 260* would not hurt the motor" though. However, I am not comfortable running temperatures that high. What are some of your thoughts on that?

THERE'S NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR TEMPS BEING THAT HIGH------ Instead of looking at another add-on oil cooler, maybe you might want to check out your fuel/air ratio's. It sounds like you may be running a little too lean. my .02

Realbob, Thanks for your reply. I believe my air fuel mixture is correct, but I will pull the chart out tomorrow and look at it again. I have just always been under the impression that 230 deg. is the highest temp. you want to run. I believe I am discovering that a higher temperature is okay on '07 up Twin Cams. Your input is appreciated.
