Lightngsvt2, yes you can just go the speaker only route I guess. After I got the new 5 1/4's installed I hooked them up just to my radio without the Amp and the crossovers. They did sound a lot better then the factory stock speakers, I could tell that right away. But I still got the clipping when I turned the radio up a little high with the bass up, as it just does not have the wattage on it's own.

I decided to go with the separate tweeters and crossovers because in my mind it free’s up the 5 1/4's to do it’s job more as a woofer and with the ARC surface mounted tweeters you can swivel them in their mounts more towards my head for better sound going down the road. Wayne can also set you up with 5 ¼’s that have the tweeter and crossovers built in that you can use with or without the ARC amp. But I will say the ARC amp wakes the system up on the stock HD radio.
