O.k., I changed grips the other day. I know I was supposed to jam some cardboard or something in between the brake lever and the housing. Now my brake lights are permanently on. How do I get that fixed....I think there is a plunger in there, but how do I reset it? 05' king. thanks
Head to the dealer. Lay a little $$ on the table, and then go back and do what you knew you were supposed to do, but didn't do. Then it will be all better. I feel your pain....
You might not have broken it. If you had the switch housings apart to put the grips on you might have dislodged the copper keeper clip that holds the front brake switch in place. If this switch is not where it should be it could be loose and always 'on'. It is a normally 'open' switch, and when the lever activates it, it closes the brake light circuit. The v-shaped keeper holds the switch tight so it doesn't slide into the housing when the lever makes contact with it. When I last had mine out, I put a dab of silicone on it to secure it once I had it in place.
I went through the same thing, even though I used the cardboard. Check the plunger, if you broke it off, it will need to be replaced. The second thing I did was miss putting the copper keeper clip. Once I put that in, all was well.
