I get 40 - 42 in town. Only once have I gotten close to 50+ mpg. That was on a long mostly downhill stretch and running no more than 55 mph. (Hwy 12 from Lolo, MT to Orofino, ID). Most highway riding is done 2up with full saddlebags and we get between 42 - 47. 4th of July weekend we rode into a headwind the entire way to Seattle and averaged 35mpg.
I have an 08 RKC with Rinehart slipons, stage I ac, and a power commander. I'm getting 36-38 riding 2 up, have never seen 40mpg the times I've checked it. Oh ya, my wife says I drive to fast, she's probably right. So it could be a little better, but not that much I wouldn't think.
I have a 04 EG Classic and I too felt these high mpg's were fiction, checked it a few times and averaged 38 to 40 mpg, recently I took a day trip and figured I'd check it again, 48 couldn't believe it, felt I had to have mis figured, but the numbers didn't lie, checked it again, 48.5 mpg. Now I was riding with my grandson and didn't hot dog it too much, but the riding was not on interstate and actually involved some mt. roads. I do run a power commander but all else is stock. I anxious to figure it again when 2 up with my wife. my 2cts...
