Mounting Highway Pegs to Crashbar
I just picked up a set of short angled Adjustable mounting pegs from Ebay and wanted to know if I'm suppose to put anything between the clamp and the crashbar...as in a rubber gasket or anything of the like ???
Thanks in advance.

I usually wrap the crash bar with masking tape. It provides a little friction and protects the chrome.

Mounted mine with nothing between the pegs and the crash bar, but kinda wish I would have. Probably prevent some scarring on the chrome.

Thanks to all for your replies and I do like the tape suggestion.

Just put on a good coat of wax first. Tape might trap moisture and attrack rust.

Just mounted mine - no tape - would worry about it slipping / rusting. Only issue I had was how to position them. You can sort of see mine on my pic.

Don't use rubber! They'll eventually spin on the rubber and the rubber will hold water and eventually rust the bars. Yeah...tightening is gonna scratch the chrome, but hey...ya want them on or in the box? Chances are, you ain't gonna be taking them off at sale/trade in time.

I didn't use anything on mine, just put them on. Don't know if it scratched the chrome or not, because I have never taken them off.

Definatley NO tape or rubber.... Just position the pegs, and tighten them down. A good coat of wax was a great suggestion. Mine have been on since 1998 and hav'nt moved!
