Unhappy Removing Swirl Marks From A Chrome Exhaust.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get out swirl marks on a chrome muffler exhaust. I used the S-100 Total Cycle Finish Restorer on the muffler of my bike. It caused swirl marks to form in the finsh. I tried almost everything, and no good. It states it is safe even to use on painted surfaces, it is not! This is on the actual muffler and not the heat shields. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Unless you have buff wheels for your bench grinder take them to a chrome plating shop. They can probably get the swirls out for you. Otherwise get some buff wheels for your bench grinder and some compound bars. remove the mufflers and go to work - you'll be surprised how well they'll turn out. BTW, I've also used Wenol metal polish with a small handheld buffer (2-3") with great results.

The actual Chrome layer in the process is very thin. Use extreme caution while buffing to avoid getting into the nickel or worse copper. The difference will show.
Don't really know the effectiveness of buffing, but I have heard some say they had good results.

Most swirl marks cannot be removed.

Another +1. From my experience, scratches on chrome are not removable, and swirl marks are scratches.

I have a hand held buffer for cars, I've never used. They(S-100), shouldn't say that they are "safe" for all surfaces if they are not. I barely rubbed it with the tip of my finger wrapped in a clean soft cotton t-shirt. It's not a major deal, but 'I' know it's there. I am very disappointed. What can you do.
