Default starter swap????????

at 43K its time for a starter. draggin when hot (little when cold). not the battery-swapped that out. is it as simple as the book says?? two bolts and a couple wires?? found a starter at J&P for 250 and lo and behold i get home to my puter where a two day 10% sale actually coincides with the day im driving up ta get it. i dont often get that luicky

any tips or pitfalls ????????

Yep its that easy.
Sounds like a killer deal too.
Long allen sockets are a good thing to have, not a must have.

250.00 for a starter is a damn shame.. I put starters on automobiles and there is no starter worth 250..

I bet you can go to a electrical repair shop and have it rebuilt
for a bunch less...

On the softail I believe that it's about a 6 hour job, cause of everything that you have to take off to get to it. On yours?

You can likely get a rebuild kit for the one you have now...its very easy to complete and will save you upwards of $200

There is a little more than just the two bolts and wires. You have to unbolt the exhaust support, remove the primary cover and unbolt the bolt on the end of the starter drive. When you remove the starter drive pay particular attention to where everything came out of, which order, and what direction the coupler was, as it will go in either way, but will only work one way. Hope this helps.
P.S. Check out the prices on the Ultima starters. You can save some good money there!!!

He has an 07.
Your right about the exhaust support though.

are you sure its the starter and not the selonoid? Selonid is a very very easy rebuild
