Low Down on HD Batteries
#31
It's time for me to replace my battery on my 02 SE RK, still starts o-k but I can tell it's a tad weak, but it's been nearly seven years. I will replace with OEM battery unless someone can point out one that's as good and will last as long.
Actually does anyone know what battery company makes HD's batteries?

Switch
Windup08 You may wish to run a red 16G wire from:
- the battery, use fuse before relay( 30Amp mini fuse holder) to a SPST Relay : (Single Pole Single Throw Relay) to #30 put it close to/next to your battery.
- #85, use your key switch on to a very small 20 ga than a waterproof push/on~push/off (such as I have on my site through Perko marine as an interrupter.
- # 86 to ground.
- Run from #87 up a 16 Ga to your fairing to another another relay.
- Attach this (+) red wire on SPDT Relay : (Single Pole Double Throw Relay) found here to #30.
- (disconnect all handlebar wires from 3 spade headlight plug).
- Run your High beam wire from the handlebar selector switch (on the left side opposite of the black wire) which connects to the 3 spade headlight plug to #85 (as an exciter/switching only, no power to the bulb)
- #86 & black handlebar wire and a 16 ga black wire and the 3 spade plug all to a good frame ground (3 wires).
- #87a to low beam 3 spade (in the middle) plug. There is no need for the handlebar low beam selector switch wire. Just terminate it with some sort of an insulator.
- #87 to the high beam on the 3 spade plug into your high beam bulb.
- Make sure there is nothing flopping around as the connections will fail or break. Make sure you tie-wrap all as not to bounce around as your bike takes a beating.
- Not use the handlebar 20 ga wires other than to control your headlamp Hi/Lo.
- Made your bulb burn brighter as there is not as much resistance limiting your loss.
- Made the lighting system easier to manage and safer to have.
- Turn off your headlight with a very small switch.

Looks like this is the battery they make for HD. Still $120-$130 with shipping and tax.

I knew a guy that worked for a battery company that made motorcycle batterys.. He said most of the cost was for safety ? I asked why he said well what in front of most motorcycle batterys???? He answered again.. The gas tank.... And the thing is right next to a hot engine ...Think about it

My 05 FLHRCI battery failed this weekend at 38 months. It has always been on charger/desulphator when not being ridden. I had hoped fpr longer life. Went to Sears for a replacement, they did'nt stock and couldn't order it. Went to local HD Dealer 150.00 plus tax. Wound up with an Interstate at 119.00 including tax. What the heck is so great about a HD battery to warrant that kind of pricing. Bought a Die Hard Deep Cyclye RV/Marine for my RV at 81.00 in July. I don't get it!

My RKC is only 6 months old with 5k miles; I bumped it to 103ci at 1k miles. I ride it at least once a week and then for at least 100 miles. I've noticed lately that it seems hard to crank and twice has left me stranded. Should I have increased the cranking amps when I did the 103? I don't think I'm doing anything wrong, except perhaps leaving the aux lights on when starting it.
Any suggestions will be appreciated?
