I must be lucky. Never even considered they could get out of whack. I took mine off, cleaned them, put on 2 coats of wax and set em back on without a thought. Sorry you are having struggles.

I'm amazed you got it to work. When I put on (or tried to) the detachable plates it took me a complete weekend to realize that I was not going to be able to get the damn holes to line back up. I had to end up leaving one of the bolts out and driving to the dealership to have them do it.

Exactly.. I figured this one out the hard way too.

Bump on what Monstermile said. This should only take about five minutes to get both bags aligned and back on the road. What I have noticed, there is a slight difference in the rear left and right brackets. This is for the bolt hole alignment and pin alignment in the vertical position. I swapped sides and presto, no more problems. I had the entire back end apart and failed to mark L and R on this part.

Believe me....I did loosen up the mounts (figured that one out from the get go ) and then tried to put the pins in but the rear holes were off by as much 1/2 " no matter which way I rotated the mounts. I final did slide the bag(s) back until they were just about touching the directionals and that finally did the trick. part of the issue was that the little sliding nut plate that the mounts bolt into had to be replaced twice. The first time the metal clip broke off and the second time the damned thing caused two bolts to shank in the hole. Luckily I bought extras the first time it broke and I also have gobs of extra hardware. Also the addition of the side plates and mounts for the detachable hardware made tightening the bolt nearly impossible so I had to take off the fwd mount for the tourpak detachable hardware kit just in order to be able to turn the wrench.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm glad I wasen't the only one having this problem.

I loosen the brackets and attach the pin and then tighten the bracket bolts down tight.

While you are at it you might want to slide the bag back on the support bar as far as it will go. If it is too far forward it will rub the paint off of your side cover. Just an FYI.

yup....

I had the same problem when I installed my docking hardware for backrest. I kept the mounts loose, inserted the pins and then tightened the mounts. The left rear pin is still a bear to get in. After three tries I got it to work but it takes a little finesse to get it to latch. After 4.5 hour install on the docking hardware, this was the last step and my patience was worn thin. Next time I remove the bags I will try to re-adjust again.
