Unhappy Fairing Repair ?

Ok, here is the dumbchit award.
Left Streetglide running in neutral uphill while I walked about 10ft downhill to close a steel gate. Bike was on kick stand just fine for about 15 sec. when all of a sudden my wife says, WTF - here comes your bike.

It slid into the gate still on the stand. Good news is another 2 ft and it would have gone down a 12 ft bank, tow truck city and lots of damage. As it was, it just took out the mirror but F-ed up the fairing. Screw pulled completely through inner fairing so now inner and outer are separated about 1/2 inch.

Is there anyway to fix this short of a new inner fairing? (no JB Weld Jokes please !)
Any magic plastic, bondo or fiberglass that will hold up? I am sure I can get it back together but there is no shoulder for the head of the screw below the mirror to pull the inner/outer fairings together.

Where in Tx are you? If you are around the Dallas area I would gladly take a look at it for you.

Your question was how to fix this. I can't help you with that, but I just wanted to tell you that we have all done dumb thing before. Don't beat yourself up over this.

If your insurance won't cover this I would take it to a pro body shop and ask them what would work on the plastic and go from there.

Without seeing at least a picture its very hard to say.....can you possibly put a washer painted black outside the inner fairing, and then put a bolt through the washer, inner fairing, and screw it into the outer fairings bolt hole?

I sent you a private message. I just replace my Street Glide inner fairing for one without mirrors. Make me an offer. Ship from Texas.

Haven't had time to take a serious look at it. Just rode in back from BBB in Arkansas and didn't want to look at it for a few days.

If I get a chance I will post a pic but it's really rink dink. Just imagine your inner and outer fairing separated about 1/2 inch right where the mounting screw goes under the right side mirror. Screw has pulled completely through taking the inner fairing shoulder with it.

Not sure if there is other damage or outer fairing damage until I get it apart. Outer looks good from the outside.

As for not beating myself up. Thanks for being in my club of doing dumb things. What I hate is I have been riding a number of years and can't remember doing something this lame........well at least in a long time!

Replied to the PM. Thanks - may be something worth a look.

Get some pix posted, and the feedback will start rollin' in. There's plenty of smart folks here, but there's also some knuckleheads... :-)

Don't be to hard on yourself. Ususally when I pull a stunt like that there will be about 20 of my so called friends there to give me a big round of applause.
