My throttle grips, regardless of the type; stock, Iron Side, Battastini, HD Black Diamond just never seems to be tight enough. There is more play in it, both long ways and around than it seems there should be. It's the worst when I'm cruising in 6th gear at 75-80, although it's never as tight as I would like it. Bike is running great with no unusual vibrations, the grips just don't seem to be able to be tightend like I could with my old cables. Anyone else with an 08-09 have this problem and if so what was the fix?
Just changed to heritage bars and new grips on my 09 RK with TBW and have the same problem with the throttle. Too much lateral play over stock. Haven't called the dealer about it and does add some stress when going over bumps and you gas it! any advice would be helpful...
You can move the brake and switch housing up a little till the grip binds then move it back to were it feels good to you but do not let it bind, then tighten the switch and brake bolts. Doc
I had the same thing happen on my Sportster when I switched the the diamond checkered grips and again when I just put the Iron Side heated grips on my RKC. I am under the impression that is just the way it is. At least, that's what I told my self and that's how I got over it. Now I don't notice it.
Thanks Doc, a quick fix as this took all of the lateral movement out of the grip. The multi fit grips seem loose in the sleeve with all the TBW and I will get use to it I guess. Just different from the stock set up...
to make the grip tighter i put a coin in the grip to act as a spacer and now it has very little play or you can slide the housing and brake over aittle to tighten up the play, i had to use a coin becasue i couldnt slide my housing over anymore do to my bars.
