Unhappy Broke down over the weekend

Sunday the wife and I hoped on the Ultra and headed out on a ride to the coast and back. We got half way around when I hear this whack clack clack clack and all forward motion ceased. I suspected the tranny but was hoping that it might be something in the chain case. I opened up the chain case today and things look good. I put a socket wrench on and put the bike in gear and spun the chain assembly and it went around with out a problem. I tried all the gears and got the same result. So now I have to take it all the way apart and see what the problem is. Looks like my riding season has come to an end early My big question is if it is my tranny and I need to replace it can I put a 6 speed on my 98?

Yes I had a 98 Ultra and was about to put the Baker 6 speed in. And decided to get an 09 Ultra. Baker has 2 different ways to go with what you want to do. They offer a 6 in your old case and in their case. So it's up to you to decide. Keep us informed. I love have the 6 now.

Maybe your clutch basket stripped on the shaft. Same thing happened to a buddy of mine coming back from Street Vibes. No noise just stopped going forward

That is my hope too. I'm just getting things pulled apart so I will know in a day or two for sure. I need to get my bro-in-laws jack from him so I can work at a little higher level.

+1 You will have to pull the primary completely off and it requires a special socket.

Thats correct if that pulley stripped, I would think the clutch basket would go before this as it is aluminum. So I will have to say -1. Big dog, we are all waiting here to see what happened. Think Ill get some more popcorn during the intermission.

Ok at long last I finally got to work on the bike again and I found the problem. It is at the final drive pully. The sprocket nut is trashed and it looks like the threads on the sleeve are also trashed. Now what I need to figure out is if I can replace the sleeve with out having to tear apart the tranny. anyone with any info please let me know. Pics attached

There is a sleeve puller and installer. Also looks like you will need a thread chaser to clean up the threads on the out put. Georges garage tool #620060. If you didn't live across the country from me I would lend you what you need. Maybe someone near by you has some tools you could barrow?
