I'm 5'8" also and have a 28 or 29 inch inseam depending on if I'm buying Levis or Wranglers. I got a little buffetting from the stock windshield and didn't like the way that it shook. It's really thin compared to the aftermarket stuff. I went to the Clearview medium and have been happy. Unlike skootchnc, mine is not vented. I can still look over it when I want to, but I am also comfortable hiding behind it if need be. (it's love bug season in Florida) It improved the buffetting a lot and eliminated the shake. I have recently come to believe that most of the remaining buffetting comes from the lack of lowers on the Road Glide. It just seems like all of the air hitting my head comes from below the fairing. My .02

The windsheild alone will not block out all of the wind.Adding lower fairings will stop most of the wind that comes up from below.

The shorter tinted or clear windshields are available on e-bay for about $35. I wouldn't go cutting the Harley windshield.

6' 1" here, 34 inch inseam,

I put the Harley "Air Seat" or "Road Zeppelin" as it is also called, on my Road Glide,

This seat raises you up a fair amount, the stock shield gave me severe head buffeting at speed, very uncomfortable,

I bought a Clearview GT+2 with tint and vent, and I LOVE it, I can see over the top of the shield easily,

5' 10" and 32" inseam.
12" Klock Werks Flare windshield, with stock seat and rear lowered 1".
Good wind coverage up to 80mph and the rain blows over at 65mph.
The wind hits about 3-4 " above my glasses.
Remember lowering rear of your bike 1" makes the windshield taller 1".

I have the short HD windshield also, the 12" Flare is far better.

I also run a Saddlemen 1" lowered seat around town, this is my best set-up.
This seat isn't good for 500 mile days.

Sturgis ride 4800 miles in 15 days - Stock windshield/seat
4 day trip 1200 mile - Flare/ stock seat
All other - Flare/ Saddlemen seat

Check these guys out.
http://www.customflhtwindshields.net/

Not only does their windshield work better but they are great to work with. I bought an 11" shield from them that didn't help a whole lot so they sent me the 13" for free. No wind buffeting and I can see over it well. What they do is create a shield that stands more vertical therefore pushing the wind over your head. I really recommend these folks and you can tell them Larry sent ya.

Does the tint help with anything or is it purely for aesthetics? When you look through the shield is it harder to see through in low-light or night conditions? Glad you weighed in on the vented model too as it seems that would help with the vacuum issue. I wonder why more people don't seem to be buying the vented model though.

Hmmm, interesting. How tall are you and do you run the stock seat and suspension on the bike?

I'm 5'11" but I have a long torso so I probably sit more like someone who is 6' or 6'1". I have a large Clearview with vent and look over the top of the screen. I love it up to about 70 mph, and then the buffeting gets annoying. I'm afraid if I go to the extra large I won't see over the top (no good for me). So I'm intrigued with Bullseyes recommendation of the Clark Custom windshields. Any comments on buffeting with these screens?

The Klock Werks 12" tinted gives the bike a great appearance and had outstanding protection against the wind above 40 m.p.h.. 1st class piece of kit.
