Default Fuel Guage

I have an FLHR and I'm having problems with my fuel guage. Hard as I try when filling it up, the guage never reads full. It always reads well low of actuall. For instance, yesterday I filled up showing about 1/8th tank and put in under 3 gallons. I know I can just look at the miles and guestimate, but should I have to do that on a new bike?

I called the dealership and they said they would look at it. Has anyone else had this problem on their Road King or similar?

Any thoughts?

What are you worrying about? Let the dealer straighten it out.

There are two possible problems with your gauge., One, the sender unit is bad, or two, the float arm needs to be adjusted. H-D gauge are notoriously bad, but mine finally works well after the dealer installed a new sender unit and adjusted the float arm. I still use the odometer as a cross check for when I need to get gas.

I have to agree, let the dealership worry about the problem, not you. Just get on and ride!!!

When my gauge reads empty I can only squeeze in about 4 gallons in my 6 gallon tank.

I guess the beauty is I should never run out of gas if I just fill up when it shows empty.

I always use the guage as an indication... I go by miles and reset the trip odomiter at each fill up. Never liked the guage set up at all. I swapped out the ambient temp guage for an oil temp guage. Figured that was a little more useful.
