Puking oil, why?

Puking oil, why?
Just got my 2004 Road glide two weeks ago. Bike has 33,000 miles on it. Took my first distance trip to New Hampshire this weekend. After the first three hours of running (last hour on the interstate @ 75 m.p.h.) I stopped for gas. When I pulled into the station smoke pouring off the pipes entire right side of the bike covered in oil. After checking it out it looks like it puked 1 quart out of the air cleaner. Cleaned the bike up, topped up the oil and put on another 700 miles for the weekend with no further problems. This is my first twinkie (startin to miss my EVO), any one else ever had this problem with their "88"?

I have the same problem with my '02 Ultra. It only happens when I am on the super slab and riding hard. I think it's just not enough crankcase venting into the intake so it backs up into the air cleaner and drips out on to the pipes. I am afraid the only answer may be to do some engine work and up the hp.

There are a couple of things that you can do. You can reroute the breather tubes. You can drill out the rocker supports like the Doherty system does with a #43 drill bit which allows for better oil return to the bottom end. You can replace the umbrella valves. You can check the alignment on the oil pump. Since you have an 04 with 33k on it I would be checking the cam tensioners anyway so it would be a good time to align the oil pump and such anyway.

if the bike has been ridden hard the crank can get bent.because they are pressed together and then they wipe out the oil pump.mainly the savenge side.just fixed a 01 fatboy with the same complaint.hot bike had a whole story on this in the june or july issue.if the cam plate is bad you can buy a screaming eagle plate and pump cheaper than stock replacement parts.hope this helps

been reading around here for awhile, so i finally thought I would join in. I have a RK with 50k on it and around 40k it did the same thing (all over my wifes leg on the way to hewlett wy.) take the air-cleaner off then the breather tubes clean out the tubes and blow some compressed air through them. I did that and no problems for ten thousand miles. good luck

Really appreciate the imput lads, the cam tensioner check was suggested by the dealer in Concord N.H. when I had stopped in there on the weekend. I just got this bike from the local HD dealer who had been riding it as his personal ride since it was new. Fortunately, I also got 4 years of warranty with it, so if I have major issues, they can eat it. Appreciate the imput. Ride Safe
