In Montana you need to register as an LLC and you can license your vehicle in the state. Motorcycles in Montana are premenant plates so they are registered just one time and when I registered mine in 04 it was a one time fee of $50.00 it has gone up but you still only pay it once. I don't know if it would be worth it to do the LLC thing on a bike but on a million dollar motor home it pays off. there are Lawyers that specialize in LLC's and it is like 500-1000 to do it. I know that Billings usually beats Greatfalls every time. The missoula dealer is at MSRP and also apparently deals with out of towners more than locals. I know a guy that just bought an 09 RoadKing POSE in Butte (thunderbolt hd) and claims he got it out the door with spoke wheels, cruise, security non abs for $17,400.

I hope Harley is not controlling the prices because that is price fixing and far from legal.

For what I know right now, if you were to walk in a dealer's showroom and told them you wanted to purchase a motorcycle, what would be the best deal I can get in this area? The answer would be on any model, MSRP thoughout with no Doc Fees and no setup fees. Also, when they say no setup fee, that really doesn't mean no setup fee, it means they have added it to the MSRP. The most I see added to the price was 125.oo

OK, Sum up everything, In my area, for the best deal in town would be...
MSRP + 125.00 setup fee with no DOC FEE.

Example... Road King Classic...Black Only...17,999 + ABS-795.00 + Freight 375.00 + Setup fee 125.00... Grand Total of 18,294.00 OTD..

Hope this helps, Remember as it gets colder outside, most dealers will throw in 500 to 1000 dollars worth of accessories but will not come down from MSRP. I was told that Harley Davidson controls this price and dealers can get themselves in a pickle.

Good Shopping...Hope this helps anyone looking for a 2009 model.

Setup fee what a crock. It's illegal in N. Jersey to charge dealer prep or setup fee because the dealers get the fee from the moto. You guys got to start complaining about that.

Ok, I am not a dealer, but in my area there are only two dealers who claim they do not charge a setup fee. All the rest do, as much as 295.00 and down to 125.00.

I was told by a salesman, if they discounted off of MSRP, it could be possible for them to loose that particular bike. For example, Harley Davidson has giving them permission to discount their remaining 2008-105 anniversary models. I really don't know all the specifics. More reliable information, please call your local dealer and ask them.

One more thing on 2009 purchases, when buying accessories and having them installed. The prices on accessories and labor can differ from dealer to dealer.

Hey MTClassic, good info in the LLC. Thanks for the clarification. Wasn't sure how they get around it, but I know they do. Good point on permanent license. Once you're licensed, your done. No more fees for the life of the bike. Same with my enclosed 14 ft. bike trailer. Good post.

Did I miss something in another post? When I added 17,999+ ABS - 795 + Freight 375 + Setup 125 ... Grand Total I got 19,284.00 not 18,294. Since you said 18,294 OTD does that mean they are discounting $1000?

Default No help here either

I been looking for a new Ultra Classic recently. Went to Yellowstone HD in Belgrade, MT. The salesman there said you had to have an actual Montana address and drivers license for them to sell you a bike and register it in MT. They would sell one to me but I had to register it (and pay tax) in IL. Asked about a PO box and he said they were wise to that.
Came back to IL and City Limits HD in Palatine was advertising $3000 off on left over '08 Touring bikes. Grabbed my checkbook and went right in. The salesman had the ad on his desk. There was a 2-tone red one on the floor. Asked how much out the door his reply was "I'm going to have to check into the details, this is new to me" I gave him my card and asked him to call me with a number. It's been a week, no word.
With no reply i went to Woodstock HD. All they had was a '09 black Ultra. "Just came in, only '09 Ultra we have. I could have it for $500 OVER MSRP. Still looking.
been following some ads from Ohio dealers on Cycletrader and they are advertising a little less than MSRP even on SE Ultras.
Going to call Capitol HD in the morning

Xcrossbow, I'm sorry, your right. I was adding from memory. Now, I will grab the calculator. 19,294.00 OTD.

Again thanks for correcting me.

No problem hyperfocal. I just came back from Allardt Tn. on Monday and was thinking for 1000 off I might have to run back down.

I just bought an 09 Ultra Classic in dark blue pearl in Southern California. I paid $23,400 out the door. Also got the $500 detachable tour pack kit for half price, and second headset for intercom for free ($200 value). Sales tax in Ca is 7.75%.
