Question re: Clutch lock-nut torque
Just finished adjusting clutch for the first time and it came out perfect, but I am unsure about the torque value for the lock nut. I had a friend make me a special tool for this job, a 3/4 nut welded on end of 11/16 deep socket. Works real well. But it still took a lot of pressure to break the lock nut loose. The book calls for 84-120 INCH pounds. Thats not much at all and 1/4 of what it took to get it loose. Has anybody had this nut come loose?? Do you only use 100 INCH pounds or is it wise to tighten more?? Are the threads soft and can they be damaged with more torque? Because of the rotation of the clutch does this keep the nut from coming loose even though its barley tight?
