Default Clutch Cable?

..is it really necessary to drain the trans to change the clutch cable? How much gear oil will you loose if it's sitting on the side stand?

Yeah, you need to drain the oil. It will end up everywhere if you don't.

It's been a while but I don't remember draining the tranny. I think I rode it up on a board so it would be tipped a little further on the sidestand. Lost a little but not much.

+1. Just did mine. Drive up on a couple of 2x4's and let it lean over on the side stand. Have a couple of shop rags handy as a little will come out, but if you put the rags in the bottom of the area you won't lose enough to notice on the dipstick.

I asked the same question when I changed my bars out. Just do it not worth guessing how much leaked out.

That's a good idea . . . why didn't I do that.

Just changed my cable and made a hell of a mess. Had oil all over.

The tranny only holds 28 ozs, so whats the point of saving the oil?

Most are only changing clutch cables when doing bar swaps.....that or when they break.
