Lost valve stem core on front at 75mph...

Im sure glad you are allright, but I tell ya, as someone mentioned earlier some of these kids working on these bikes have no idea nor the pride of doing good work anymore, its all about the money and how many tires the dealer can push them to change every day. As an aircraft tech i do all work myself all you need is a good manual for your bike, and no one can do a better job than you can, and with the diligence you WILL do it with. again glad your ok,surely an im sorry from that dealer would not be enough if something would have happened.
We were going on vacation, so it was more convient to let someone else do the work. This was not done at a dealer and it was not some young kid that did the work. Everyone can have a bad day, that's the reason I'm glad I'm not spinning wrenches for a living anymore. You screw up on an airplane, propeller or motorcycle and people can die. It's just on the motorcycle, you don't have to sign your life away everytime you touch it...

Very scarey; excellent recovery! This reminds me to ask if anyone has seen the metal valve extensions on the GW's... they are bent to the outside of the rim so you can easily put a gauge on them or fill them without the gymnastics I have to do to get to the valves on my Ultra.

Amen brother!
Sure glad you (and your bike) are ok. Sounds like you already know how to handle
the situation, I was floored when I saw the (lawsuit) comment. Lawsuit? Huh? What?
How about giving the service provider a chance to do the right thing before letting
the attack dogs out?............sheesh!
(I'm a service mgr and appreciate all my customers that have your attitude)

Glad you were able to handle the situation and you are o.k. I will never forget about the time I was riding down the interstate after having chrome calipers installed, the mechanic forgot to torque the front caliper and it came off at around 60 mph......Luckily I was able to stop bike without incident but those few seconds to stop the bike seemed like a long time....

Well, I went by there yesterday and the owner wasn't in. I took the old (new) tire to them and spoke with the mechanic that did the job. He was extremely apologetic and told me they had run out of Harley valve stems. He told me he used an automotive unit and would never do that again. Once he said that, we both looked at the valve stem and I can see that the new cap that was installed at my local dealer was torn up. The longer automotive valve stem was hitting the caliper!
They immediately rolled the bike in, sent a guy for more valve stems and replaced it on the spot. I could very well have had the same scenario all over again, if I hadn't talked to the guy....
I'll call the owner on Monday and mail him all the bills. I think they will take care of everything. They have done everything right since the screw up.
