09 touring models better than 08's?
Gentlemen, I currently own a 07 sporty (first bike I've ever had) but I've been thinking of upgrading to a Softail or maybe even a touring bike. I can make a good deal on a 07 Electra Glide Ultra Classic but I wonder if when I get the chance to ride a 09 touring model, I'll fell that I should have waited a little and got the 09 model with all the improvements made on the chassis and whatnot.
Is it to early to ask for opinions comparing the 09 models to the old ones? On paper they seem to be really better but maybe in reality it just doesn't change things that much. What is your opinion? Any input would be appreciated.
Regards,
Bruno

my 02 would be a used 06. i prefer the 88 " motor over the 96 . no fuel filter 6 speed tranny issues running to hot issues ids issues. as for an 09 the jury is still out. new frame is untested in the real world. motor mount issues abound in all the dressers from 01 on hope this helps a little also the h/k radio from 06 on sux like a hooker !!!!

Bruno,
I've yet to read an opinion on the 09s from someone who was not happy with the move to that year. Myself included. There are lots of reviews by new 09 owners on this site. Go look and read.
My feeling is yes, you will wish you bought an 09. (I went from an 07 to an 09) Its not just improvements on paper.

Go rent one for a day and see if its worth the extra $5K-$6K over an 07 to you or $3K-$5K over an 08. The 08s have the 6 gallon tank, braided brake lines and brembo brakes. The 09s have the new frame, bigger wheels, and a few other tweaks. They are all excellent touring rigs and will give you thousands of fun-filled miles.

i work at a dealer, in the service dept, and have had a decent amount of time on both (and other years), and i own an 07 flhp.
the 09 is an amazing machine. the new wheel/tire combo handles GREAT. the frame tweaks make the bike track true as hell on the highway, and seems alot more stable in the corners than the previous years. power seems better, but they changed the gearing in 09, so it could just be due to that.
they seem to sit higher than the older bikes, but thats nothing some shorter shocks can't fix.
overall, i'd buy one if i hadn't of just bought my 07 flhp (for an amazing price)... that and i got a 103" stock.. lol..
you wont be disappointed with either bike..

The 09's are not just cosmetic changes. The fact that the engineers were able to improve the entire product and keep the familiar HD look is nothing short of amazing. With that said I still wouldn't be disappointed in an 07. The 09 will cost you a lot more and only you can decide if it is right for you. Either way you won't be disappointed.

Like others have said, there are alot of improvements on the 09 that you will like. If you can afford the 09 go for it. The only mistake you can make is if you go for the 07 and them wish you had gotten the 09. You will lose money on that deal. Think about it long term and do as much as the pocketbook will allow. Good luck,
