Older Ultra Classic
I was out and about this weekend and saw a two tone blue and silver 1996 Ultra Classic for sale. The owner is in his 60's and he bought it new and no longer rides. The bike looks like it just came off the show room floor and was always in a temperature controlled garage. It does not have a scratch or blemish and he just put new tires on it last year and it has 12,000 miles on it. He wants 10 grand and will not budge on the price. I think it is worth the money due to the condition so what do you think? Is that to much money for the bike. Thanks for opinions.

KBB Trade In side lists a 96 UC for 7190.00
"IF" he's been starting it ocasional and letting it get up to normal operating temp's. The seals / gaskets etc etc as others have mentioned would probably be OK ..
If I had 10G's ... I'd be looking for something newer..

I was in a similar situation 4 years ago. I ended up buying a 1999 Heritage Softail Classic from an older gentlemen that had gone through colon cancer. The bike was nice and clean, and only had 6800 miles. It was 5 years old at the time. The original owner had not ridden the bike but only a couple times the last 2 years before I got my hands on it. I started riding it and put about 3,000 miles on it before the rocker box gaskets **** out on me. Just thought I'd let you know that I'm sure what the guys are saying is true, the gaskets dry up and rot out.

If it's as pristine as you say, you probably aren't going to go too far wrong. But you need to be careful on bikes that have just been sitting. You can find some pretty nice newer Ultras (especially in the winter coming up) with very low mileage in the 12-13K range. This economy is for buyers, NOT sellers. Unless you really have a love affair going with it, I'd shop some more. For a couple of thousand more you can get a 5-6 year newer bike. JMHO. Good Luck
