Were any of your friends around when you were changing your oil? And have you pulled any jokes on them lately?

Yeah, he CAN be "serious", and he's right.

Note that I now own both a 08 Ultra Classic AND a "jap bike", an 04 Goldwing, and I've owned may of both metrics and Harleys in the past.

But trying to be cavalier about parts falling out during an oil change is not the trivial thing you try to make it.

So why don't you show me one other case of bearings falling out of a drain hole? Can't can you? When someone says they may not buy a HD because "You don't hear about this with Jap Bikes". We have one case and "He" doesn't know 100% where they came from. Then I'll say it again, "You can't be serious can you"! And what does your 3 bikes have to do with it?

Default back to the original "problem"

If you actually found steel ***** in your oil that's a problem I'd say. If you found two different sizes of steel ***** then that's enough trouble that you would already know you have serious problems. Assembled ball bearings can only have one size ball in them so you would have two failed bearings in the machine...too many to not cause real problems and shutting your bike down. Either it is a prank or it's bogus altogether....now, everyone can go back to bashing what's his name over the Jap bike statements.

The logical conclusion is that they were already in whatever he was draining the oil into. Maybe a dirty oil drain pan that wouldn't allow the bearings to make any noise when it was being used.
