Question Replacing handlebars on my 08 RK

I'm about to replace my stock handlebars with the new Heritage style bars as a lot of folks on this forum did. However, I noticed on some of the threads that there were a few who had problems with the "fly-by-wire" throttle sensor not working after the change.
Are there suggestions/tips that I should do as to not create this problem when removing/installing the new bars?
Thanks for any input.

If you plan on running your switch wires internally, it will be very tight. I think thats where most have had issues when pulling wires thru and damaging the sensor. If not, you shoouldnt have any problem.

if you want to put internally the wires, the only solution in order to prevent the damege of the wires is to use a "borotalco".

I don't plan on putting the wires into the handle bars - I'm just concerned about taking the throttle grip off/on the old and new bars and damaging the sensor - is there a trick to do this, as I mentioned before, some people have had trouble doing this which resulted in a damaged sensor.

I had 16" ape hangers put on my '08 RK. I don't know the brand of bars they ordered, but they came with the notched right hand side made for the throttle by wire system. The wires were internal. The brake & clutch cable (braided), had to be special ordered because of the length.Turns out I hated the apes! Had a indy shop put the stock bars back on. No problems there either. The stock bars aren't internaly wired, but the fly by wire unit went back in without any problem.(A couple of times!)

P.S. The 16" apes & whole
setup is 4-sale.

Shouldn't be a problem. Just feed wire into the handlebars from the wire harness to allow enough slack to get the sensor out of the bars. Don't "yank" on the sensor. When the connector comes out of the bars you can disconnect the sensor & set it aside till you get the new bars on & the sensor leads threaded through 'em. Then plug the sensor back in, feed the harness back in & button it up. You only need to be gentle with the harness wiring for the sensor. The twist grip comes off like all the older ones, but you'll find that the stock grip is notched to fit the gear on the end of the sensor so you're stuck with stock grips until someone comes out with aftermarket grips for the TBW.
