Cool Using Too Much Gas

My '04 Ultra suddenly started using a lot more gas than it used to. I'm now getting about 30 mpg whereas I got the average of around 45 mpg. I had the EFI checked by my dealer on the computer and it checked out fine. They also checked the fuel pressure which was 60 (normal is 55-65). Last spring I had the dealer install the 95 kit. My gas milage was fine right after - no problems. My bike has 56000 miles. Has anyone had this problem? Thanks, guys for any suggestions.

My 04 Ultra always got around 32 with the 95 kit and Andrews cam going into a Vance and Hines 2-1 propipe. That was with a fuel pak for adding fuel after adding the cam. Before the cam and fuel pak, I got around 35 or 38 at the most. I never was able to break the 40 mark, even solo and below 60 mph.

So. . sorry I don't have any idea other than checking what you have already checked.

I'm assuming you have a KN type aircleaner that is not dirty . . . . .

Good luck

I tend to get less mileage fron a tank of fuel with Ethonol. I try to avoid it when possible.

I had the same issue this summer. First trip of season I was in the low 40's. After that it dropped to 29 - 30. Went through all the same checks as you - then talking at the 105th with an Indy he said it sounded like maybe wet sumping. Sure enough when I pulled the cam cover there was 13 oz of oil in the lower chest. Only thing I noticed unusual was the cleanout plug at the top of the can support plate had popped up 1/4" and wasn't tight. While I was in there I replaced all the o-rings for the oil pump and cam support plate. I also removed the zipper's spacer for the oil pressure relief spring. Something was not sealing properly, because now I'm back to mid 40's. Oil pressure is 35 psi above 2000 rpm and 15psi at idle hot. I think maybe the high pressure (55-60psi) might have been the cause for internal leaking.
Hope this helps -- Tom

Thanks to Trek, Bigredone, and especially tcfamy for your replies. I will definitely check in the cam cover. That could be the likely culprit. Unlike Trek, I don't have the fuel pac so......
Good stuff, guys.
