Why do we ride a Harley

I started serious riding in 1978, and at that time (AMF) I bought the best bike on the market.... some 200,000 (on all bikes) later I bought a used road king in 02, and when it was stolen bought my new one in '05.... quite frankly there are several great bikes on the market.... I choose the road king because my riding style has changed.... the kids are grown (we had sidecars for them for years) my wife drives her own bike (and would like a heritage).... and no one is behind me on the b*tch seat
and yes, it looks and sounds cool, has personality, chicks notice the bike (not me) etc etc

Because I love having old men come up to me when I get gas and say: "I used to have one of those back in the day"..... and then go on to tell me some of the coolest stories I've ever heard. Little kids love em. And they're in my blood. My boys ride Ducati's, my friends mostly ride Jap bikes except for one Triumph, and everyone always tries to convince me to get something faster, lighter, cheaper, more advanced technology.... But I can't really define it. I just plain love my Harley. And over the years I've been through them all, from Jap to Brit and back again to Harley... It's got soul....

OK. Mine reason is a little different. For 20+ years, I rode metric bikes with my favorite being the Roadstar. I always looked for the 'biggest bang for the buck'. I am a very independent guy and could care less what others thought about my rides and I would never buy a bike just to have the HD name. But as I am getting older, I decided last year that I wanted a touring bike but I wanted to retain the VTwin 'motorcycle' sound. Once I set my specs, it was a no-brainer... Either the EGlide or the UGlide. The BMW is ugly and the Goldwing and Ventures are too quiet and hard to work on. Now that I have a Harley, I am realizing another big advantage. When I take my bike to the dealer, it is comforting to know that the wrenches only work on Harleys. When I would take my Yamaha Roadstar to the shop, the wrench may have just finished working on a Honda dirt bike.
