The DJIA dipped to 7040 a couple of months after 911, then closed over 14000 this past October. You didn't loose anything unless you sold something. Take a deep breath and buy the bike. The market will come back and this bull$h#t will be a distant memory.

And I do agree with the comment about the media having alot to do with the doom and gloom crap. I guess they think reporting good news more then bad would provide listeners, I'd listen!!!

If the institution that carries your loan goes belly up,that loan would be sold to another.
You would still be responsible for the payment.

Just for grins I had the dealer run the numbers on a new Ultra yesterday. They offered me 17K for my 07, and the new bike at MSRP. I think this is a fair offer, and I am sorely tempted, but my gut tells me to wait. Part of my dilema is that my bike needs new tires, and why not put that money on an 09?
But in all honesty, the 07 is a fine machine, with many more miles left in her. But I want a new bike with ABS!

If the market recovers, I may just go for it, if not, I'll hunker down and sit tight for a while.

noone likes this view but here it is. never invest more than half of your income on vehicles. depreciation is awful. for toys its a cash deal ONLY. never finance things you dont really need. if you follow these rules then banking woes wont affect you if you lose your job.
thanx jinx another sane voice heard from!

I feel your pain. My 07 is a perfectly great bike that needs tires but I need a 09 SG with ABS for suburban commuting.

My strategy is: There's only about 6 weeks left in the riding season in these parts and a new bike would have to be ordered. So, I'm going to wait until Jan/Feb. and see if I'm in a financial position to ADD a new SG. By then the financial markets will have stabilized or fully melted down and the decision will be easier.

this may be a very good time to buy, interest rates should be good, dealers are wanting to sell to get their floor plan debt down and as the others say, if you can afford it, go for it..

looks like our federal government is buying up everything, investment firms like fannie mae and freddie mack, and if you need insurance the feds own a company for that too.

The basic question has been asked, and you just need to ask yourself. If I get this 09 is it going to strap my family to the point that we can't continue to live a comfortable life? You know in your heart what that answer is. No one here can tell you. If you are looking for justification to buy, well hell, I'll give it to you. But you ought to be talking this over with your significant other, wife, etc., and look at the bank statement. Nuff said.

If you got the cash and your job is secure then buy. If not - don't buy.
