Garage Door Opener Hardwire Mod - for FLHT models.

I did just what skydoc did. Pretty simple really, I just ran a wire off each side of the button inside the remote, drilled a small hole in the fairing and installed small momentary pushbutton. I wrapped my remote in several plastic bags, taped it up good and stuck it inside my fairing. Good idea to put a fresh battery in the remote so you'll be good for a long time. I also did this on my fatboy, just drilled a small hole behind the tin set, and mounted a switch there, and hid the remote, again wrapped in plastic behind the tins. Wouldn't be without it!

This is a outstanding job thanks, I have a radio but it is almost worth giving up the down search feature to get me HD opener working again as i added a HID kit and the bright switch will no longer work with the starting and ballast in line. Never realized how much a convince the opener was until you don't have it anymore.
Sorry I did not get you the diagrams from my 07 manual but by the time I got home you had already gotten them for 08.

I have the H-D opener, had the dealer put it in before I picked it up, and just recently put a HID kit in also. I did not lose the opener function with the hi/lo switch, both still work together. What/why does yours not work together?

Excellent write up! For those that are keepin' their radio you could probably (I haven't tried 'cause I removed my radio) simply add a diode or two between the garage remote & the bike leads to prevent any back feed from the remote to the radio.
Another thing you can do while you're in there is toss the remote battery (at least on the 12 V units) & wire to the spare leads on your headlight circuit. Then you never have to go in to change the battery.

Interesting what HID kit did you buy, if I disconnect the Ballast and starter (no head light) it works perfect. I would love to see how yours is wired really miss mine.
