Default New flatside 45 carb knocking??

I had the local shop put on a new screamin eagle flatside 45 carb. in order to install it they had to file 2 fins on the jugs down, which they did, but its now knocking. not badly, but audible, and coming directly from the carb. I've taken a close look, and the carb doesnt seem to be hitting anything. they claim that its a normal noise for that carb... I wanted to consult you folks before raising S#!*.

The old makarooney slide rattle.....thats fine and normal....annoying, but a common occurance. Nothing to worry about though.

what does your build consist of cams, compression, cubic inches, etc??
Yes the slide will make noise for sure, but also check to see if the **** on the idle cable isn't tapping on the rear jug.

Normal for the mikuni. Prove it to yourself. Remove the air cleaner and touch the carb slide while the engine is running. The noise will go away.

It's normal for the mikuni.
My Springer sounds like an old John Deere at idle with the Mikuni breathing and the red shift 675 cams.

I can remember putting a set of four flatslides with velocity stacks on a built Honda CBR900rr years ago. Now that made a lot of noise at idle.

Even the 42's are noisy. The earlier 40's weren't for some reason.

You were right, i pulled the air cleaner off and pushed on the slide, sound went away. i'd ruled the slide out right from the start because its more of a knock than the rattle i would expect from the slide. once again you boys saved me from walking into the shop and making an a$$ of myself. well done.
