Synthetic works.

I have 500 hours on two 600HP big blocks on a Cigarette off shore boat that we freshened up last year and they looked great. These engines run under a constant load and operate up to 5500 RPM.

I have used Mobile 1 15W-50 in them since new in them and will continue to do so.

Only makes sense that it would give the same results in the scooter.

Thanks guys for the great response. I suspected that my "friend" ( well he is really an acquaintance from a ride group ) was wrong. This is my first HD and I want to take great care of it. I hope he is not an idot because he is a really nice person . I usually research info a lot before I give people advice. The concensus here was 100% that he is wrong.

Thanks for all the advice

Yes, you're friend just needs to be brought up to date. The name calling was uncalled for.

These forums are full of great information which I use before doing any project, or if I just have a question.

Oh, and welcome to the HD Forums.

What a bunch of BULL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All the new Screaming Eagle bikes come with synthetic oil, and HD highly recommends it in all their bikes in all three holes!!!!!!!...and the HD recommended oil change milage with synthetic oil is 5,000 miles on the engine and 10,000 miles for the transmission and primary chain case.

Synthetic oil is the best oil you can get. I use Amsoil 20W50 motorcycle oil and have for many years. All my vehicles use synthetic.

Your friend needs to crawl back under his rock!!!!!!!!!!

Your so called friend sounds more like an enemy if he told you that and apparently has been living under a rock for quite some time...it's a no brainer, use the synthetic.

Thumbs up Synthetic Oil

My 2000RG made 119,000+before going for the factory eng. reamn. program. Most of that using syn3. I will be changing over to Mobil 1 20/50 synthetic now that I have 1000 miles on the fresh eng. Not sure yet what I'll use in the primary & trans.
