He is just confused. My 1989 GMC pickup has had only synthetic oil for 215k miles so far. Mercedes and many others come from the factory with synthetic oil in them. My dealer recommended switching to their HD Syn3 oil at the 1000 mile service on my 08 Ultra. They recommend it to every customer to help reduce heat mainly he said. I will use Mobil 1 for here on out myself.

Your friend doesn't know what he's talking about. Your friend is ignorant and uninformed.

Wine > beer
Long legs > big *****
West > East
Wool > Cotton
Cheeseburger > Steak
Harley > BMW
Van Halen > Black Sabbath
Education > Superstition
Dogs > Cats (except those little yapper dogs. No one likes them)

"Congratulations on your new Harley Touring Bike. You will get many years of driving pleasure from the motorcycle. The key to longevity is maintenance. Change your fluids every two thousand miles and the bike will last a long time. DO NOT use synthetic oil in a Harley !! It is not made for the air cooled Harley. Run a 50 weight high grade oil and you will have no problems. The reason, my motor in my Electra ate a rod bearing was the use of synthetic oil."
Hmmm. 3 posts by this dude. One promoting a Vulcan, One promoting a GoldWing while bashing a Harley, and now this rediculous statement about synthetic oil from a "Freind" about a Electra bearing biting the dust? All with no replies. I dunno.... TROLL? Take a hike.

I also like the part about "run a 50 weight.." -- maybe in an old shovel -- certainly not in a twin cam. (or evo for that matter)

Multigrade synthetic for me -- right now Syn 3 in my 08 RG, may switch to another brand one day. Ran 20w50 Mobil One V Twin in my 98 EVO for a long time. Ran great,no problems. "friend" is a mired in the past....

I won't call your friend any off the wall names, I will only say he is FLAT wrong !!! Synthetics do no harm to the engines and in most cases help them. HD sales it and even installs it on their CVO bikes right from the factory. Get you 1K miles and then drain it and refill with your choice of synthetic fluids. I use Mobil 1 20W50 V-Twin in all holes except for the tranny and use their 75W90 gear oil there and all is well with the world !!!

corvette, porsches and many other vehicles are delivered from the factory with synthetic in the crankcase. i changed my 01 at 500 miles to Mobil 1 and when i traded it three weks ago for an 09 it had 68K miles on it. the cam chain tensioners lasted over 50K. i'll change my 09 at 500 miles in a couple of weeks.
