I did the same when I first got my bike put the rolled thunder miter cut sweet pipes with alot of sound. I used the stock head pipes and had great results with them. It's up to u and what u want dont let others shoot down what you want to do.

Any aftermarket muffler should give you an increase in performance not a decrease. If you went to a true dual setup you would likely lose low end performance but gain top end power.

If your RK is a 2007 or 2008 you can change the mufflers for any slipon and not have to change anything else. The ECU will adjust itself to the change and you will have the sound that you want. I am not sure about other years. I have a 2007 Street Glide and have put Kuryakyn Crusher slipons (using the stock headers) with the 13.8/1 XiEDs and a direct replacement K&N air filter. Great sound, runs smooth and strong, better idle and cooler in the heat. I have not had to add an aftermarket black box tuner or use a dyno. The spark plugs don't lie, they look like they should and the performance is most satisfactory. Simple and it works!
Good luck and ride safe.

You won't lose enough to even worry about it.No matter what you run, except for drag pipes. You just want to be sure the motor does not run too lean.
