Default RKC Pewter Pearl or Vivid Black

Getting a new 09 Road King Classic in about a week. My dealer has 2 colors available Vivid Black or Pewter pearl. I have always bought black but the Pewter Pearl actually looks pretty good on this bike.

Whats Your Opinion ?????

Black when clean looks amazing, but hard to keep it that way long.

Silver (pewter) when I've owned vehicles, rarely shows dirt. Seems like it just gets a darker shade.

Decide how often you want to clean the bike.

Bike colors are like women's hair color, get what you like today. When and if you get tired of it you can always change it. I happen to like black on Harleys. Even with that the black Sporty below is coming apart this winter. I'm thinking about "Oil Well Orange" for tins and frame.

I'm not biased at all, but the Classic just looks CLASSIC in Vivid Black!

I've had both colors and prefer the pewter.

Like spag said, easier to keep clean looking. The pewter really hides the road grime well. You see every fleck on the black. Black looks fantastic when it's clean but gets dirty before you can even get where you were going.

I ride everyday and hate cleaning. Besides, every one else has a black bike. Be different.

I am coming off a BCP RKC, getting a vivid black UC now, had the same dilema. I know the VB is going to be require more cleaning but I think it is the best looking color on a HD, also looks bertter with a ghost flame job which I am planning. As far as being comon, I have to say I used to think the same but I have changed my mind. I had to order a VB bike, could have gotten any other color a lot quicker but not the VB with ABS, so I am not so sure if the black ones are as common as they used to be. Ironic, I am getting a black HD to be different.

I had a V-star in black, a Virago in black, a Yamaha 650 special in black and I bought my Road King used, Vivid Black. Black shows every swirl mark, very hard to keep clean. My Softail has a HD radical paint set on it and can be dusty, but looks clean and does not show swirl marks. I don't think I would ever get another black bike.

I've had four black bikes. Looks great when clean. Dirt, dust and the slightest swirl marks are the downside. Personally I would never own another black bike.

You say you have always owned black. Maybe it is time for something different. If you eventually hate it you can always change it.

My Dyna is pewter pearl which I really like. When I bought my RKC I bought vivid black because it just looked so "proper" on such a retro bike. After owning both, even though black is faster, I wouldn't buy another black one. As everyone has already said, it looks great clean but is hard to keep that way and the swirls are driving me nuts. I almost bought a "copper top" and wish now I had.

This is my second black bike. I had a Black '99 Heritage then I got a '00 RKC and had it custom painted House of Kolors Blue Blood Red with American Flag flames. It was striking but didn't have the classic look of my new black FLHX. True, it takes more work but I love cleaning and polishing my bike. As for the swirl marks, I'm careful not rub anywhere when it's dusty, only use microfiber cleaning/waxing cloths and keep some fine scratch remover handy. My bike STILL draws a crowd at events and I suspect it's only because it's so slick and shiny. I will agree that if you don't like or have the time to clean your bike black is probably not for you.
