HD chrome is pretty poor quality. Peeling, pitting, thin spots, wavy parts are not uncommon.

If Harley chrome is so cheap, why is it so expensive?

unfortunately, the price tag has nothing to do with what it cost to manufacture the product and deliver it to your local showfloor. It has everything to do with what people will pay for it. They don't want it to be so inexpensive everyone can afford it, then it wouldn't be 'special' anymore.

There is a WORLD of difference in quality between those parts that come on the motorcycle when it's originally rolled off the crate, and the sparkly trinkets you find on the wall on the showfloor. I refuse to put anything HD on my bike that isn't a genuine OEM replacement part for at least one of their motorcycles. Look at the CVO bikes, they have lots of accessory pieces already on them when it's shipped, and *these* particular items are made much better, because HD actually has to warranty them for at least a full year. So, I say, forget the parts and accessory 'bling' catalog, go find the OEM parts manual for all the harley models and find your parts there, as long as you're paying more, might as well be higher quality stuff.

Poor quality chrome, made in China, no quality assurance process, boxes don't have the right instructions (or bolts or washers), and costs 3x more than it should. Welcome to the world of Harley products.

Yet, we all still keep buying it. Why would they change their process when the buying public doesn't stop buying their stuff due to to all the problems???
