OK ...
Here is an UPDATE ...
Went to Nashua,NH HD (15% off discount day) and bought just the oil temp gauge to
be mounted in my fairing (07 Ultra). Like I mentioned already Wife & I both have the
HD Premium Oil Cooler. It uses both holes on that bracket that you are suppose to
use when using the gauge. I also looked at the oil return lines. I thought there was
a return from the pump to pan via a hose from the case to pan but there is not.
It is internally routed. On the Softail models you could tap the oil return lines because
they are exposed to the oil resivoir that is under the seat. Since we both have the
Oil temp dipsticks I may just tap the hose going back to the filter so I will know
how cool the oil is heading back into the motor. The only thing is worrying about
oil leaks at the hose clamps. I will call the shop (Leominster,MA HD) that does the
work on our bikes that I feel is too much for my mechanical skills on Monday and
see what they recommend. Tap hoses or use drain plug sensor ?
I will let ya know what they say !

Hmmm ...
I looked today and it didn't look like a cover.
It looked like part of the bottom case.
Well ... that was on an 2009 model.
Here are some pic's of where I am talking about & the bracket that
goes on BEFORE the oil filter if your NOT using the oil cooler setup.
