Default Progressive 440 shocks, where to buy

I have read several threads on the virtue of progressive shocks and I decided I would replace my stock 07 road king shocks with their chrome 440's. I have read several recommendations on the shocks, but haven't seen any comments on where the best place to buy them might be. If anyone has any suggestions on better than msrp pricing, please advise. They are priced well over $600 from the product web site.

If you're going to drop that amount, you should really consider a much better shock than the 440. Go with Oenske shocks. They are fully adjustable, customized to your weight and bikes weight, not like a Progressive that is a "One-size-fits-all" shock ina box. I have had the 440's, and I can tell you the difference is night and day with the Penske. Yes, the Progressives are better than stock, but as much as those are better than stock, the Penske is that much more better than the 440's.

Another thing to consider and read, is all the threads where the Progressives are leaking. The Penske you can rebuild yourself, or send them back to Howard, a member/sponsor of this board and he'll do it for you.

On a scale of 1 to 10, 10 is the best here is the way I would rate shocks
1 Stock Showa

4 Progressive 440

8 Penske's

10 Ohlin

Call Howard at Motorcylcemetal.com You won't buy the 440's.

look up the number in the drag specialties catalog, and then order from zanottis. they give a discount on aftermarket stuff too. (of course, check with the forum vendors as well).

i paid less than 400 for my 440s (course that was a couple of years ago), but the penske were double that amount. some can pay that, i can't.

440s have a lifetime warranty to the original purchaser, so if it leaks, they will give you an rma and replace them. if one is leaking, they want you to send both back. no they aren't rebuildable, but they are replaceable. good enough for me

If you go with the Progressives get the part number of the shocks you want and give Zanottis a call. I suspect you will save some money over the 600.00 you quote. I don't remember what I paid for my 440's but I already sent them in once (after 4 yrs service) becasue of a leak and it was a painless process. There are probably better shocks out there, but I don't have any complaints.
