Default No bling this time

I decided this time I will not get caught in the grand Harley marketing plan to spend thousands on bling accessories on my new bike, like I did on my last one.

I feel my new SG looks good, rides good, and it is fine just like it is.

Before I picked up my SG I had a Sundowner seat and a stage 1 done. I did this because of the heat issues and I may put on an oil cooler someday. But that was something for comfort and to make my machine last longer.

What I am talking about is the overpriced H.D. chrome goodies. Don't get me wrong on this I love to see a well done custom, but I decided I am going to ride mine and keep up with the maintenance and not get caught up in spending money for chrome.

Remember....Chrome won't get you home.
Am I alone on this?

Personal Preference, I do agree you get sucked into the high cost but it looks amazing and it is something I know I enjoy doing give me a reason to spend time wrenching in the garage. My money ain't going to do me no good in the grave and either I spend it on the bike or my wife spends it on Crap. Just my 2 cents.

You are not alone!

I picked up a new FLHT in late March and am taking the same approach with regard to chrome for chrome's sake.

However, when I do add things to the bike, they are for functional reasons...and, if they happen to be chrome, so be it. For example, I have added a detachable passenger back rest and detachable luggage rack. They are chrome, but they were added for their function not for looks, and they are only on the bike when needed.

I enjoy the looks of a chromed-out bike just as much as the next guy. Some of the rides that some of our forum brothers have are truly outstanding customs. However, a choose function over form, and I really like the looks of the stock Harleys. JMHO.

thats what I said in the begining, that I would just more or less be stock... needless to say that didnt last... I hope it does for you, but for me, it just didnt work. I havent gone crazy, but I have added chrome, and done several other upgrades that make the bike mine... again like HDULTRARIDER said if youdont spend someone else will on stuff that isnt nearly as nice as your HArley

I had a kawasaki voyager VII that i rode for years absolutely stock then i finally got my glide classic.. i added the dash chrome but took chrome off as in removed the wrap around bag guards. Taking chrome off costs money too..

On my last ride I wound up with boxes of take off parts that no one wanted. When you do decide to sell the first thing you hear is "you don't get any extra for the chrome add on's" Or if your lucky someone will give you a little more but not nearly what is invested.

Do what makes you happy, but for me my money will be spent taking vacations on the bike, maintenance items, and for accessories that serve a purpose to make my ride more safe, and more reliable.

I don't buy chrome to make MOCO rich I buy it because it makes me smile. And as a plus I get to spend hours with my bike installing the stuff.

Chrome might not get you home but you will sure look a hell of alot better on the side of the road.
