Default Passenger backrest failure be careful!!!!

As we were riding yesterday the passenger backrest failed and came loose! Luckily we were turning a corner and were at low speed. I have the adjustable passenger pegs on with the floorboards and they are the only reason my wife didnt go off the back. Upon looking at it after calming her down the rubber gromets that the front part of the backrest go into had broke and allowed the backrest to rotate back. CHECK YOUR MOUNTING POINTS ON A REGULAR BASIS IF THEY ARE DRY GET NEW ONES!!!!

We were lucky and I would hate for one of you to have a worse outcome. I am fabricating braces that go from the backrest to the removable tour pak mounting points so this cannot happen again.

Just FYI for my HDF brothers.

Stay Safe!!!!

Sledge, you may want to notify your local HD dealer of this to get it escalated into the MoCo for a possible TSB!

Thank God y'all are okay, and only have to clean the #&%^$ out of your drawers.

The docking points seem to wear out quite often from threads I have seen. I have already had to replace one on mine. I think if another one breaks I am going to order the aluminum ones in this thread

Wow, I've got an almost 9 year old Roadglide with the removable Tour Pack and Back Rest and I've never heard of this problem. I just got done washing it and installing the Tour Pack and I just went back out and checked the mounting points. Everything seems OK on mine. I've never heard of this problem and do you know if the problem is just with the newer design quick release or if it's all of them?

If it's the fronts for the sissybar backrest ( the ones with the cutouts for the shock ) they are almost all soft rubber on mine from the Moco not the stoutest setup for sure! Glad you didn't lose your lady Sledge! Mine had started tearing from installing and uninstalling my sissybar back and forth for the Tour Pack so I replaced them with solids.

I too saw the premature wear coming and called Hoppe up who has similar ones that come with their fairings. I put them front and rear and have never had a problem with anything since.

Could be where you store you bike. It if is outside, the rubbers could fail in short order...
