Default Question about how to get the transmission apart.

For you experienced wrenches I'm in need of some help. This is on a 2000 model bike and I have a bad leak on the clutch cable side of the transmission, not the primary cover side.
It's between the transmission main housing and the cover that sits between the clutch cable cover and the main housing.

I dont know how that comes apart, I removed the 2 large nuts from the counter shaft and main shaft and of course the hardware holding it to the case. My question is, will the cover itself and containing bearings slip off of the shafts and allow me to change the gasket without having to pull the "guts" out of the transmission as an assembly????

Never been here before so I need to lean on the experience of you guys in the Forum.
I appreciate it!!

Try a 1970 LS6 and a string. No worries about it going back together! (sorry, I've been stuck in an office all day)

It is doable. George's Garage sells a tool that allows just that. Or you are going to need to do it the old fashioned way. Buy a book. The tool # is 620140 and a 620130.

hello, the answer to your question is no. The trap door must be removed as an assembly. It is important that you follow the disassembly procedure in the manual. There are several special tools you will need also. If you are unsure or do not have the special tools you will have to take it to a qualified mechanic you can trust. I have rebuilt quite a few trannies and find you need to extremely careful and follow the procedure so as not to damage any parts. I am curious how you were able to remove the 2 nuts. The only way I know is to remove the tranny top cover, remove the shifter forks and lock the gears . This will keep the mainskhaft and countershaft locked so you can loosen the nuts. If you yhave any questions let me know, good luck
