Hello fellow HDFers!!! Dont have a dealer close so was wondering if i could get one at say NAPA or any place else? and what would be the number for my FLHT?....Thanks for info and have a great Holiday!!!!!!!...R.W.
Why wait until you need one before you get one? If you're at a dealer at least once a year, pick some up whether you are ready for an oil change or not. I buy 4 to 5 filters every spring. Or, if you have an Indy shop near you - I'm sure you can pick up Amsoil filters, or other (even HD) from him/her. http://www.amsoil.com also works.
steve ~the K+n is a very good filter as well I like the fact that they have a nut welded on the end so you won't need a strap wrench at all
That 17mm nut on the end is the whole reason why I switched over to K&N oil filters. They cost the same as the HD one, but they are so much easier to install and remove.
The harley engine is not a high tech engine. I use the NAPA filter (black which is better on heat dissapation than chrome), made by WIX . Cheaper and just as well made. Change oil and filter as required and you will be just fine. I do use Amsoil syn. for better cooling also. But regular dino will work as well.
I have used the Mobil One and currently use Amsoil filters and oil. I get them for cost, and are much better than brand HD purchases. Just because the HD symbol is on it, does not make it better. It is overpriced for sure, but not quality.
I believe I read somewhere that the HD filter is top notch, like 5 micron, think it was HQ Tech website. I use only Mobil 1 on the cars, all GM but HD on the Hd.
