88" TC Police bike cams
This isn't one of those threads where I'm gonna ask if the police bike cams are different from standard model cams. I know they are different, I checked the part numbers today and they are not the same. What I'm wondering is what cams they are, are they 203's, or something less than that, or what? My dad has an 06 RK police and eventually he'd like to take it to a 95" Stage 2 kit, but if the bike already has 203 cams, than he could get away with just the Stage 1 and actually have a Stage 2. I know I've ridden a few other 88" bikes, and my dad's bike just seems like it has more pick-up. And I thought this before I ever heard of the police models having different cams, so it's not just a mental thing.
Thanks for any help

I actually work at a dealer, that's how I discovered they were different. But, I did a little more searching today, and made some discoveries. Apparently, the cams used in the touring bikes up to 03 were part #'s 25296-99 and 25297-00, and 04 and later were 25534-99 and 25544-00 (which are the same cams used in all Dynas and Softails). Except Police bikes, which used the 25296-99 and 25297-00 in all years of the 88" motor. So, my guess is that they are higher torque cams than the Dyna/Softail, but there was some kind of EPA bull**** that made them change to the less torquey cams in 04, though since the Police bikes are a limited run they still used the better cams in them. Just my guess

Can't help with your question.
I have an '04 police model EG and a year or more ago I sat down with the parts books for police and civilian models to compare parts between the two and note differences. My recollection is that the cams were different between the police and civilian models for a number of years, but that they were the same in '06--(HD also used different cams for carb and efi bikes for several years, but that to stopped, though I don't recall the year).
I'll try to remember to double-check the civilian/police model cam difference next time at the dealer's parts counter--not saying you're wrong, only that my recollection is different.
Good luck with your research.

Take the cams to a cam grinder and ask the nice man to profile both cams for you. He will be able to tell you the differences and which grind makes power where.
Tell your Dad to leave his motor alone. If he wants to go fast reliably, tell him to buy a 600cc Honda and go spank some 124" Harleys for less money and headache.
