Question What's Wrong with Samson??????

OK...I give up. I've done a few searches, but still can't pin down exactly why some folks keep saying "stay away from Samsons," "don't buy Samsons," whenever there is a post asking about slip-ons, etc.

What's up? Do they have a quality control problem, customer service issues, or performance short-comings?

I'm thinking about getting some Samson slip-ons for my stock '08 FLHT (with IED's) just to have a little better sound. My friends who do a lot of Harley trike conversions, use Samsons all of the time and have not had any problems with them...or customer complaints.

Am I missing something here? What is allegedly wrong with Samsons?

I don't know about Samson but I have Rush 2.0 slip-on pipes and they have great sound and I didn't have to dyno my bike.

The left header on there true duals don't fit the tourers. Hangs out to far on the left side and you need to remove the bracket on the gearbox (starter) to make it go close to fitting.

The mail order store (no names) that I deal with said that sampson quality control is an issue and customer service is also bad. I had to send my rineharts back due to damage and the guy said that bub enterprises will not give him a problem about the return but sampson would. He says that he gets alot of returns on sampson products and has to eat the cost because sampson will not take them back. just what was told to me. I have no personal experience.

I had a Sampson Caliber and to answer your questions....In my experience the quality sucked, the customer service was beyond ridiculous. No complaints about the performance.

I was 100% satisfied with the Samson BG3 Big Swoopies exhaust I put on my 2007 Fat Boy and its quality was first-rate. Since I had no issues with my Samson exhaust, I never had to deal with their customer service so I can't comment on it or the lack thereof.

I have a set of samson silver bullet slash cut 29" model 125

I am trying to sell them as I just recently put my Bassanis back on my bike.
For some reason they aren't selling. Maybe it is the economy, or maybe it is the pipes.
Personally, I think they are great looking pipes, they sound great, the fit is great (I have them on V&H headers), and the fit on my headers with the samsons is much better than the Bassani's fit.

I guess I will post up the Bassani's and keep the samsons,

but yeah, as far as people not liking them, I don't get it.

I have Samsons. I bought them through my dealer. My right one turned gold after about 8000 miles. My dealership agreed that it shouldn't have happened and called Samson. Samson would not deal with them. My dealership told Samson that they would foot the cost of the pipe that turned. Samson told them they wouldn't even sell them just one since they are sold in pairs. I finally called Samson and spoke to their customer service tech. I had a long go around on the phone with him and he finally agreed to sell me one but would not deal with the dealership. I had to buy it and my dealer made good on it to me. My dealer ate the cost. Kudos to my dealer but bad marks for Samson. If you read about their pipes, and what their guy told my on the phone, they say if their pipes turn blue it's not their fault but the tuner. To me, if they have to put a disclaimer like that on their pipes, then their is probably a recurring problem with their pipes. I just wish I had read it before I bought the dang things. I like the sound but I'm sure the replacement they sold me will turn a nice gold color too shortly. I will be going with anything but Samson's my next go around.

I put Samson True Duals on my StreetGlide this summer. Had to modify the starter bracket to get the left side pipe to fit. After installation, right side leaked like a SOB. After taking it off and putting it back on several times, I finally saw the small hole where the weld WAS NOT COMPLETED (**** poor quality control). So, I had to weld up the hole and reinstall. Pipes look and sound great but were a bit of a hassle to deal with on the install. My guess is you would not have those same problems with Bassani or Vance and Hines. My 2c.

Comment added in edit: You should ask RocknRod what he thinks of Samson.
