Default Rider backrest - Compact or Mustang

anyone using either one of these two backrests?

I'm looking for a backrest that I can leave on when I ride 2-up and won't crowd my wife or make her do the splits..

This one is the HD compact:
Screamin' Eagle® Road King® Compact Style Rider Backrest Kit

Compact leather backrest features a slim profile to maximize passenger space. An adjustable support bracket with four mounting locations accommodates different riding positions. The backrest pad can be quickly removed for storage in your Tour-Pak® luggage or saddlebag.

Or this one is the Mustang:
But at 12" wide, it may have the same limitations as the HD adjustable that I sold.

Thanks!

Default Backrest

I have tried both, and found the mustang much better.
It lays flatter for passanger and can be ajusted up
to give them room.
Seem Harley don,t get it.All their backrests
seem to push you on to the tank.

Well, I've done em both.

I have always liked the Mustang backrests better, BUT, if your concern is crowding your wife, the compact is the only way to go. The mustang IS wide. I dont understand why everyone who makes rider backrests think that they need to be a foot wide. My wife had NO extra room for her legs, between the backrest, and the rear speaker. She fit, but had no wiggle room. And after a few hours of her inner thigh rubbing on the backrest... well... not a happy camper.

If I stayed with Mustang seats, I was gonna have a smaller pad custom made for it.

On my new 09, I have the compact one, and its PERFECT. She loves it. And its PLENTY big enough for me. However, Ive never liked the HD backrests (until this one) because they sit you too upright, and too far forward. The only reason THIS one works for me, is because in 09, they changed the mounting bracket so that it sits back further than it used to. Otherwise, I would be running the Mustang, and having a custom made narrow pad made for it.

Here is the mustang on my 07:

And here is the compact on my 09:

Mustang. Doesn't bother my wife at all.
