Hello. My first post, so be gentle heh. I was just curious, if you or someone you know/ride with ever started their motorcycle riding life on an HD tourer: Electra, RK, SG, etc. I'm a licensed motorcycle rider that hasn't rode in close to 10 years. My last bike was an early-80s Suzuki GS tourer. Looking at getting an HD tourer soon.
Other than the weight of the bike when coming to a stop, the size of the bike did not seem to affect me. That and the price tag and realizing the cost if I were to drop it.
I just suggest taking it easy and staying out of traffic until your skills return. Ride safe!

A guy I know purchased his first bike an EGC on the way back from Iraq, first bike ever, didn't even know how to ride. Had to have someone else ride the bike home for him from the dealer. He took the MSF class and hasn't looked back since. It's been 2 years for him. My First HD will be a SG coming from the sport bike realm.

mini bike at 8, sl 125 at 12 175 honda scrambler at 15 with sl125, penton moto-cross same period local racing but never real great, KZ1000 Kaw at 20.... MWC NO BIKE til 40 then honda pretender cause of $. Now 08 RG. Frankly, the new harleys are so good frame wise, that you can ride them with the same amount of effort as a 125cc bike. They are so nice on the HWY that its hard to imagine if you ever rode a KZ1000. They had enough HP to launch you at the moon, no brakes, and two wheels that didn't run in the same line. Just remember that your reaction timing will never again be as it was when you were young. If you try to pretend it is you will be one of the many hundred deaths that fit the 45 year old harley riders club.
