We have been going to the spring rally at murtle beach for the past couple of years. Now it seems that myrtle beach wants nothing to do with any bike rallies. Has anybody else been reading about it? What is your opinion on the subject? I have read some posts at the myrtle beach newspaper and it is quite objective from some residents. One refers to us as "air-cooled drunken pigs". It gets pretty good. You'll have to check it out.

The Atlantic Beach Bike Fest or more commonly known as Black Bike Week ruined it for all of us.

 

The Atlantic Beach Bike Week aka Black Bike Week will continue. Atlantic Beach has stated, "They do not care what Myrtle Beach wants, they will still continue with their Bike Week." These terrible people that Myrtle Beach residents and thier Police Force continue to talk about attending Myrtle Beach Bike Week may be people just like them... The number of Police and Firemen Motorcycles Clubs attending this event is huge and also the number of regular family types/husbands and wives are the norm for this event. Most of the so called hardcore bikers for the most part stay to them selves and are very seldom scene out in the main stream. In my opinon, the reason Black Bike Week got out of hand is this... The Myrtle Beach City Council and the Myrtle Beach Police Department were and are so scared of the NAACP that they let the poeple who attend Atlantic Beach Bike Week run wild and have not kept them in check for years. There for these people know they can do as they please without any repercusions to any extent from the Police of Myrtle Beach. At the same time this Police Department has harrassed the attendies of Myrtle Beach Bike Week to the extreme. As for Myrtle Beach finding an event to replace Bike Week, I wish them luck, thay are going to need it. Who else is going to pay double to tripple motel room rates and vendo taxes and spaces that are priced so high the average vendor cannot even afford to set up there any way. Plus the little advertisment that Myrtle Beach likes to always run, "Treat our town just like home town America", well, Myrtle Beach is a Resort Town, it is not home town America. Do you see any factory's, etc. around Myrtle Beach. Of course not! It is selling recreation. So, all those retirees who move there should know that before hand and they should also know there will be 2 weeks out of the year that motorcycles will flood this town. After we are gone... we will be missed and then maybe that terrible "Noise" motorcycles make may some day sound like music, if we were to ever return.

 

Ask the local merchants how much they like Atlantic Beach Bike Week. Their employees don't even want to work during black bike week, that is why so many of the restaurants and businesses have opted to close. That is not to mention the damage some of them incur. During the "real" Myrtle Beach Bike Week (I dare not call it white bike week), these people make a fortune. Harley guys and girls are not afraid to spend $$ and we treat the merchants with the respect that they deserve.
