Clutch Adjustment Recommendations
I changed my fluids over the weekend and adjusted the clutch. I loosened the clutch cable before adjusting the clutch, Backed the adjusting screw out 3/4 of a turn and locked it down. Then I readjusted the clutch cable. I expected the clutch lever to be different but the 'friction zone' is too far towards the end of the clutch leaver travel. My fingers are almost fulling extended when the clutch grabs.
What is the best way to adjust this? Can it be done with just the clutch cable adjustment or do I need to open the derby cover and adjust the clutch? If I have to open the derby cover, which direction should I adjust the screw, closer to 1/2 a turn or more towards a full turn?
Thanks in advance.

The clutch adjustment that you require is under the derby cover. I had the same issue and after reading the service manual decided to only turn the adjustment screw 1/4 turn vs. 1/2 turn as the manual states. That gave me full engagement of the clutch about 1/4 to 1/2 travel from the handle bars. This has some drawback as when standing at a light you need to pull the clutch in all the way and in heavy traffic your hand falls asleep, but the benifit far out weighs the drawback in my opinion.

On my 08, the engagement was way too far out from day one... I took it in and the guy adjusted the cable in like 2 minutes and it was perfect after that. He agreed it was way too far out and did it for free with no work order. Just did it as a courtesy! Imagine that? An H.D. freebie! Woo Hoo!!!
