Default Rear Tire Fit

Hi,

I am a new member to this forum and am th lucky owner of a new to me 2003 Ultra Classic. I have already got some great ideas from the site and plan on making some changes. Please bare with me for the first while I am a new Harley owner so will have some questions before I am cought up enough to give answers.

First question is probably a sily one but...the rear tire on my bike seems like the rubber is over top of the rim and not tucked under the rim like on the front tire and most other tires. I have not had a chance to take it to a dealer but one I called them they said it may be a "cop tire". No problem holding air or riding on it. Is this tire fit normal?

Thanks,

What is the size of your rear tire?

MT90B16 is the number in the tire. It is a Dunlop 402 and it says on it "rear fitment only"

Thanks,

That's the correct OEM tire for your rear wheel. It's a 130/90B16. B stands for bias ply.

FWIW, front tires are rounder for better cornering and rear tires are flatter/blockier for a larger contact patch, so they won't look exactly alike even when mounted on the same wheel size.

LiveLifeLarge, I have a 2003 Classic. That is the stock rear tire size. You can also get an MU-85 that fits just fine. Just a little wider, but it has 2/32 more tread depth. It also handles better too.

Just got the rear tire changed on my '01 EG. The Indy shop guys put an MU85 on it by mistake. You're right, it does fit, but juuuuuuuust barely. Belt guard rubs on the sidewall ever so slightly running 2up. Thinking of getting a Pingel sprocket spacer for ease of mind.
Just my $.02 worth.

The MU85 is a 140/85B16 tire. It's the stock rear tire size from 2005? through 2008.
