of course I downshift, and I've been know to upshift when speeding up too[8D]

Blip the throttle and downshift. Bugger the brake pads, always be ready.

I down shirt to match RPMs and yes it is to be able to take off if I have to.&nbsp\\; If I am rolling at 20 MPH in 5th gear I would be screwed - and not the good way.

I have always used the motor compression to assist in slowing down, not just one or the other...always in combination. Saves a bit on the brakes, and I'm in the right gear to boogie out of the way in case some idiot cager does something stupid.

I downshift as I brake for the reason of being able to hit the gas if necessary
