On my 08, 1st I verify idle is at 1000 rpm, hit the kill switch and then the ignition. Forks locked when out of my sight.

I see it as a redundant shut-off if the bike is dropped. Hardley ever use it.

I use the kill switch only when i leave the bike in gear. My way of having a reminder. Thats just me
