since you know there's a problem, don't aggravate it, it may be something simple that you will make worst. if you don't know what ur doing have it towed to a shop and let a pro check it out. i'm sure some of the shops along the way will be open just for this type of emergency. jsut get your credit card out.

The dealership in Sioux&nbsp\\;City is Rooster's Harley Davidson phone 712-252-2750. The dealership in Sioux Falls is J&amp\\;L Harley phone 800-292-3531.&nbsp\\;J&amp\\;L's will give you great service if you are a traveler (don't ask me how I know) as I'm sure Rooster's will too but I doubt&nbsp\\;either will be open on Sunday. You might have to make a day of it in Souix City. The casinos will be open.

Default Update 8-9-08

OK everyone here is an update. I did make it to J&L in Sioux Falls. I arrived there at 9:00am expecting them to open at 11:00 as these are their hours, however, they had been open since 8:00 a.m. The service bays were all fairly busy and had all mechanics on duty. I explained to the service writer my issues with metal on metal getting worse over the last 200 miles. Within a half hour they have the bike on the lift, tore down and my S & S 585 gear drive cams , SE lifters and oil pump all on the counter. The culprit was a lifter which failed as White Knight had mentioned earlier in this thread. Well, the lifter took out the cams and oil pump. In order to get me on the road, I had to have them reinstall the stock chain drive and a new set of cams (237) and a new oil pump at a cost of $1200.00. Thank god they were open in order to get me back on the road, but the concerning part of this failure is that all screaming eagle parts have no warranty and I have been informed that these lifters are known to fail. I want to thank White Knight and Sharknose for your help last Saturday night, it was really appreciated. I also want to mention that the service at J & L was absolutely top notch and I would recommend this dealer to anybody and everybody as they really stepped up to take care of this issue and getting me back on the road in order to enjoy Sturgis. This could have been so much worse.

Yep 1200.00 was hard to accept. But what were my options. Kind of hard to be shopping around at this time and place!!!! 800 miles from home I was thankful to complete my vacation without a tow, rental or overnight hotel costs ect

I'd say you made out pretty damn good Spider. You didn't have much choice except to have the bike shipped home and then probably spend the same if not more on the repairs. Glad you ended up okay.

sounds like a somewhat happy ending,,,cause if you would have shipped your bike home at a cost of 5 bills and repairs on top of that...i think you did good. IMO
